The battery starts your vehicle initially, but once your car is running, the alternator is the part that runs all the other electric systems on your car.
This includes headlights, heating/air conditioning, and your car audio. The alternator keeps the battery charged so it is ready to start the vehicle after it has been shut off. If the alternator fails, the battery’s reserve power will quickly run out causing your car to die or fail to start. Broken pullies, a loose belt, or corroded wiring can cause the charging system to misfunction or fail.
